Line Dancing Creates a Unique Neighboring Space

    Sep 15, 2023 | by Elizabeth Meador

I discovered line dancing after retiring as a classroom teacher and after recovery from breast cancer. I was ready to quit after my first session, convinced I was a disaster. But I had a terrific teacher who wouldn’t let me quit. After about three or four sessions, I was hooked. I eventually became the teacher’s substitute and took over the class when she left.

Line dancing helps me both physically and mentally. It keeps me active and involved with my grandchildren. In fact, my then 3-year-old granddaughter went to classes with me and offered me coaching and support from the sidelines. Five years later she still offers me advice.

The group at FUMC Hurst is fantastic! They celebrate our success and laugh at our mistakes. They welcome and encourage new members. They have really built a village of active and relevant seniors still making a mark on our world. I’m just the facilitator.

Elizabeth Meador is the official FUMC Hurst line dancing instructor. Elizabeth leads a group each Monday at 1 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. All are welcome!
