Youth Discipleship

About Discipleship with Youth and Their Families

The youth group of FUMC Hurst exists to love, serve and empower students and their families as they grow in faith and compassion while deepening their connections to God, to others and to their God-given purpose!

Whether you are brand new or have been around for years, we are excited to be in community with you! We hope that when you are at Sunday School or Youth Group or any other activity, you feel welcomed and loved. Our prayer for each of you is that you would experience the presence of God and find your identity in Christ.

FUMC Hurst is committed to protecting children, youth and vulnerable adults whenever they are participating in our programs. All employees and volunteers have undergone background checks and have completed MinistrySafe training.

Sunday Morning

Jr. and Sr. High Youth

We gather in Anderson Center every Sunday, 9:45–10:45 a.m. for grade specific Sunday school. Our goal is to engage in significant conversations about the biblical narrative — especially as it relates to what is going on in our world right now.

  • 7th Grade: Spice Rack
  • 8th Grade: Echo the Story
  • 9th Grade: The Bridge
  • 10th Grade: The Quad
  • 11th Grade: The Bridge
  • 12th Grade: Rite 12

Spice Rack uses both Old and New Testament stories to discuss various topics vital to our faith.

Echo the Story walks through the major stories of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

The Bridge is a special curriculum for 9th and 11th grades that will serve as a bridge between Confirmation (6th Grade) and Rite 12 (12th Grade).

The Quad uses sources like scripture, tradition, reason, and experience to help students formulate their personal beliefs on a variety of topics important to their faith.

Rite 12 is both a Sunday School class and a special program for 12th grade students. The students work with the Sunday School teachers to develop a list of objectives they want to learn prior to moving into adult life. The class is open to every senior and students are encouraged to invite friends to join in their discussions.

Along with the Rite 12 class is the Rite 12 program that requires students to be engaged in both the youth program and the church as the whole, and to serve as leaders in the youth group. All students who complete the program are blessed with a Mystery Trip at the end of the year.

Sunday Nights

Youth Group

We meet from 5-7 p.m. for fellowship, musical worship, learning and small groups. Each week we strive to love, serve, and empower each other in order to deepen our connection to God, each other, and our God-given purpose!

How do we get there? We join in fellowship,  worship, and have deep discussions about the Bible and the real life problems that we face every day.

Holiday Hangouts

Holiday Hangouts are a time to relax and deepen our friendship in a less structured environment. These usually occur on Sunday nights (during regular youth hours) when there is no school the next day.

Snack Supper

The first thirty minutes of youth group (5:00-5:30 p.m.) is a time for fellowship over a small meal ($3 per person). First time visitors eat for free as we welcome you to our church family.

Providing a meal for Sunday night: If you are interested in serving the youth group by providing Snack Supper (you will be reimbursed)  please email the Co-Directors at  . Thanks!

Youth Choir & Praise Band

Youth Praise Band

The Youth Praise Band is under the direction of Chad Morrissey. Praise Band is a very special part of our youth group. Students of all ages (7th-12th grade) volunteer their time and talents to deepening our Sunday night worship experience. Practice is every Sunday, from 2-4 p.m. For more information, email .

Celebration Singers Youth Choir

The Celebration Singers Youth Choir, under the direction of Ashley Ghent, meets Sundays from 4-5 p.m. in the Choir Room.  No prior singing experience is necessary and no audition is required.

Choir members find connection with God, a love for music, friendship with peers, and memories that last a lifetime. The choir sings regularly for worship services and tours each summer.  The choir has visited Florida, New York City, Washington D.C., and Colorado.

If you would like more information about Celebration Singers, email Ashley Ghent.

Youth Missions

Summer Mission Trips

Each year we travel to another community to spend a week serving as the hands and feet of Christ. Junior High Mission Trip is for students entering 7th and 8th grade and Senior High Mission Trip is for students entering 9th-12th grade. If you are interested, talk to Kara or Elisa for more details.

Christmas Shopping Spree

Each December we partner with local elementary schools to love the families in our community. We pick up elementary students and partner each kiddo with a youth to go Christmas shopping for their families at Target. Once they finish, everyone is bussed back to Anderson Youth Center for a Christmas Present Wrapping Party. To end the exciting day, we eat lunch together before dropping off students back off at their respective schools, presents in hand!

Pop Up Projects

Pop-Up Projects are one day service projects aimed to love and serve our immediate community. We spend an afternoon working and then enjoy a time of fellowship, usually over dinner and a movie!
