FUMC Hurst Receives Habitat for Humanity's Faith Partner Award

Aug 27, 2020 | by Rev.Matt Ybanez

In 2020, FUMC Hurst has continued in its sacred partnership with Trinity Habitat For Humanity with a financial contribution of $10,000 that brings our church to more than $500,000 in lifetime giving.  This partnership began well over 20 years ago.  During this time our church has helped to build more than 18 homes by contributing thousands of volunteer hours in addition to our financial gifts.  Some of our church members have volunteered on many more projects than that.

In a letter of thanks, one homeowner wrote, “Owning a home will give me hope for a better future and a sense of security in a strong and growing community.”

Another wrote, “I survived the Rwandan genocide, escaped an abusive husband, and am now working hard, with Habitat’s help, to build a better life for my three kids. Being a single mom has been difficult….I want my kids to grow up in a home that has plenty of space and a backyard for them to play. My kids have never been involved in extracurricular activities because I am always working and did not have the extra money. Now I will be able to save so they have this opportunity. Habitat is helping make all of this possible! Thank you!”

The lives that have been transformed because of our work will impact generations!

We were present for two of Habitat’s greatest milestones: in 2014, Habitat hosted President and Mrs. Carter during the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, and in 2019 to celebrate Habitat’s 30th Anniversary in Tarrant County.  This year, Habitat for Humanity recognized our church with the Faith Partner Award. As your missions pastor, I am honored and proud to be a part of our church’s deep commitment to providing affordable housing to families in need. Thank you for your ongoing faithfulness and generosity.
