Children’s Discipleship

If you do the math of 300 children, 75 adult volunteers, and 75 youth volunteers, it isn’t likely that we will be allowed to have 500 people gather in close quarters for Vacation Bible School this summer. Therefore, Rocky Railway VBS has been derailed to Summer 2021. A large gathering of children, youth, and adults for Music and Arts Camp will also make it difficult to maintain social distancing guidelines so that camp will not take place this summer either. Triumph Sports and Glen Lake have also made announcements that their summer camps have been cancelled for this summer as well.
The Children’s Discipleship Team and the Children’s Music Ministry Team will be spending time exploring some out-of-the-box mini summer events for Summer 2020. Some of these events will be online and some will be in person by grade level (when that can safely happen). Keep your eyes and ears open for announcements on the Children’s Facebook Page, email and Remind (@FUMCHKids) about Children’s Pop-Up Discipleship events (including Mission Possible Kids Projects and other meaningful, unique and safe ways) for our children to connect with people, purpose and God during our SUMMER OF SPONTANEITY!

Confirmation

Confirmation Sunday was scheduled for April 26, 2020. Since we weren’t able to meet in person, we decided to postpone our Confirmation Celebration Dinner and Confirmation Sunday until we are able to meet again in person. The new date will not be until September at the earliest to allow for time to plan and for families to adjust schedules. Our current 6th graders will be moving up to Youth a little early and will have the opportunity to join in all the summer Youth activities.
Current 5th graders will receive information later this summer about plans for Confirmation next year.

Youth Discipleship

Mission trips
Mission Trips are a core of who we are as a youth group and as a church. While it may not come as a surprise, in light of COVID-19, Mission Trips for 2020 are not going to look like we discussed at Mission Trip Lunch back in February. That being said: MISSION TRIPS ARE STILL HAPPENING! Local missions are just as needed and we are going to find ways to make that happen. While details are still being worked out, know there will be plenty of opportunities for missions throughout the summer.

Fellowship Time!
Part of our Summer of Spontaneity plans are to continue to meet on Wednesday nights via Zoom until we can meet back together in person. Some weeks we play games, and some weeks we have special guests! We hope that everyone is able to join us for these weekly fun nights!

Welcoming 7th graders
Beginning in May we invited our new seventh grade students to join us for our weekly Zoom Youth Group and our Wednesday Night fellowship calls. We are still planning on celebrating our new seventh graders in person when we are back together, and are excited to get to know them over the summer.

Adult Discipleship Message

A Summer of Spontaneity sounds super exciting. Who knows what’s going to happen?? Here’s what you CAN plan on: Adult Sunday school classes will be meeting on Sunday mornings, along with Trending Topics and the Wesley 124 Study Group. Our Wednesday Morning Study and the brand new Connect Bible Study (Tuesday evenings) will continue through the summer. All Covenant Groups will be meeting together and, who knows, maybe we’ll all be meeting IN THE FLESH!!! Won’t that be wild?

These past few months, there have been so many things that were uncertain! But, one thing is for sure--we can always depend on our God who “began a good work among [us and] will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ” (Phil 1:6).

Music Message

Our Ministry is staying connected by emails and phone calls, but we really miss singing together. By the virtue of what we do, we are truly “close-knit”, so we will look for ways, while we wait, to experience our music together. We are grateful for those who have been leading us each week with solos and hymns. We are praying that these folks are ministering to you.

Missions Message

Everything we have for mission opportunities this summer is getting wrapped into other ongoing ministries as we make room for a Summer of Spontaneity. Our ongoing commitments to Mission Central, CarePortal, and others look a little different, but they’re still available. Keep an eye out in the weekly e-news for opportunities and ways to serve!

Day School

We have been working diligently to consider our best options moving forward with summer and fall plans. In order to help parents plan for summer, we wanted to make our decision as soon as possible. Health and safety are our top priorities at this time. In accordance with guidelines from the Conference Office and Bishop Lowry, in-person church activities should continue to be placed on hold for a bit longer. Another consideration at this time is that we do not know when Governor Abbott will open child-care facilities to families of non-essential workers. With all of these factors in mind, we will not be opening Day School for our first summer session on June 2 as planned. We are still hoping to have a summer session in July, however we will be waiting to make that decision until the end of May when more information is available. The plans to reopen in the fall are still on target. We have extended the $75 registration fee through May 31 for families who have not yet enrolled.
