The COVID-19 crisis continues to affect the lives of many. During this time of abnormal fear, panic, anxiety and isolation, many have lost their jobs. Others have lost loved ones. Schools are closed and children are hanging around the house. Many continue to suffer from depression and loneliness. Social distancing has changed the way we do church. We are living in uncertain and hard times.
However, despite all of this, we are watching amazing outpourings of generosity manifest in different ways from members of First United Methodist Church of Hurst (FUMC Hurst).
- Food and monetary donations are being made to African immigrants and their families in our community.
- Homemade face masks are being donated to help fight against the virus. African preschool children in our area are receiving donated picture books.
- Supplies, non-perishable foods and a monetary donation were provided to Texas Wesleyan University students stranded on campus during the pandemic. Generous donations kept students supplied through the end of the school year and will help supply the on-campus food pantry for the fall semester.
These outpourings of generosity by members of FUMC Hurst deepen the sense of hope, purpose and meaning in people.
One of the neighbors served stated,
“We are incredibly thankful for the generous support of First United Methodist of Hurst during this time of increased need. Our lives are touched.”
A long-time member of FUMC Hurst said,
“One of the most important things our church is doing to help sustain people in need during this difficult time is to continue to serve the Lord and love our neighbors. We are on the frontlines of this crisis that touches our community and the world”
