Preschool 1 discovers through Rock-a-bye Toddlers and Twos, a 52-week program published through the United Methodist Publishing House. They participate in center activities, along with a directed age-appropriate lesson. A paid childcare worker assists volunteer Sunday School teachers with changing diapers and assisting potty-training children. Please be sure to bring an extra diaper/set of clothes for emergencies.

Elementary Children - Testament Travels
In Testament Travels, FUMC Hurst’s version of the Workshop Rotation Sunday School model, children in grades 1-5 spend 4-6 weeks diving into a biblical story in a variety of ways. Each week each class will rotate to one of six rooms, which is led by short-term workshop leaders. The children are greeted by their Shepherds, who are responsible for getting to know the children and building relationships with them, before digging into the exciting learning opportunity that awaits them. One week they may be in the Cinema on the Mount, complete with movie seats and popcorn, watching a movie and then entering into a discussion and Bible study. The next they may move into the Covenant Courtyard for storytelling, cooking, or a science activity. The next week they might go into the Circuit Riders computer lab and create a newsletter to share the story with others. The possibilities are endless and incredibly exciting! With Testament Travels, our children will know the stories of Jesus and will experience them in a variety of ways, following recent brain research and Multiple Intelligence Theory.

Sixth Grade Sunday School (Anderson Center Room A102)
Sixth grade is a special year for students at First United Methodist Church. In addition to Sunday School on Sunday mornings, they participate in Confirmation on Sunday evenings. Sixth Grade Sunday School is designed to complement what is being learned through Confirmation, though it does stand alone. The class utilizes the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum, which follows the Common Lectionary, and is led by Sunday School teachers who are committed to helping the students connect their faith and their lives. The activities and thought–provoking discussion add another level to their Confirmation year experience. During June – August (following sixth grade), the students meet with a combined Jr. High Youth Sunday School class in upstairs Anderson building.
