Small Group Studies

A variety of small group studies are available throughout the year. Sunday Afternoon Readers meets monthly to discuss a particular book/topic as it relates to our Christian faith. Other short-term studies on topics such as Prayer, Bible Study, Parenting, Personal Finances, and Conversational Spanish are scheduled throughout the year. Information on our current offerings can always be found in the bulletin, newspaper, and online calendar.

Currently being offered:

A study of the book, Reading the Bible Again for the First Time, by Marcus Borg, will be led by Jerry Longwell on Mondays, October 3 and 10, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Wesley 121. In this thoughtful book, Borg explores “what the Scriptures meant to the ancient communities that produced and lived by them. He then helps us to discover the meaning of these stories, providing the knowledge and perspective to make the wisdom of the Bible an essential part of our modern lives.” Appealing to those who question whether the only options for biblical understanding are to either: 1) take the Bible as literally, historically, factually true, or 2) dismiss the Bible as unreliable and meaningless, Borg explores “how to read the Bible faithfully without abandoning our sense of truth and history.” Please register for this class through the Events Calendar (see upper right). Childcare is available with reservation by Friday, September 29.
Copies of Borg’s book are available in the church office for $15.00, or you may order online at www.cokesbury.com.
