Local Missions
First United Methodist Church of
Hurst provides and participates in various mission projects in order
to enhance our local community. Some of the projects are
listed below.
Mission
Central and the Coat of Many Colors
Mission Central seeks to serve and empower persons in need
in the Hurst, Euless, Bedford (HEB) area. By feeding, healing,
clothing, guiding, and assisting our neighbors in need, we seek to
embody the visible word of God in Jesus Christ. First Church is the
largest sponsor of Mission Central, donating food, clothing, money,
and volunteer time to this organization.
Mission Central is located at 732-A East Pipeline Road (in the
Kroger Shopping Center at Bellaire), Hurst, Texas 76053. Their phone
number is 817.595.0011.
Mission Central's resale shop, Coat of Many Colors, is located at
625 Harwood (in
the shopping center on the Northeast corner of Harwood and Brown
Trail); 817.428.2450.
Adopt-a-School
Seventy percent of the students at Bellaire Elementary fall
below the poverty level. First Church provides a tutor/mentoring
program, school supplies, a spring and fall clothing drive, winter
coat drive, and youth-sponsored Christmas shopping spree. In
February 2005, First Church received an Outstanding Community
Partner in Education award for our work with Bellaire Elementary.
Thanksgiving Baskets
Thanksgiving food items are provided for families
needing assistance in our community.
Habitat for Humanity
First Church is one of the top sponsors of Habitat for Humanity
home construction projects in Tarrant County. That interest in Habitat manifests itself in many ways.
Each year, the church provides financial support to the Trinity
Habitat for Humanity, an independent local affiliate of Habitat for
Humanity International. In
addition, the church is actively involved in building homes for low-income
families, through the program. The
church also supports the construction of dwellings across the globe
through Habitat International, including planned efforts in Afghanistan.
Christmas
Providers
A non-profit organization which began in 1986, Christmas
Providers assists eligible families who have children attending the
H.E.B. and Birdville School Districts by providing gifts and food
during the Christmas holiday season.
