Elm Street
On August 27, 1963, ground breaking ceremonies were held for a new $240,000 building on 11 acres located at 530 Elm, Hurst, Texas.  During the first service in the new building on May 17, 1964, Pastor Reverend Hubert Smith's sermon was entitled "God Is Building His Church."

After the 1968 merger of the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church, the name was changed again and became the First United Methodist Church of Hurst.

Elm Street Facility Expansion

In 1976, with 2,221 members, plans were made for a major building expansion.  Phase I, valued at about $1,750,000 was a parlor, kitchen, choir rehearsal hall, chapel, church offices and classrooms.  The chapel was donated to the church by Dr. and Mrs. William Pirtle, members of the church, in honor of Dr. Pirtle's parents, El Freda and George W. Pirtle.  It was opened and dedicated April 9, 1978, and is used for small weddings, children's church, and as a Sunday School Classroom.
