Sessalie Shapley

Sessalie has played violin since the age of four and has been teaching violin for 21 years. She taught in both private and group lesson settings, as well as in the public schools, including beginning string classes, junior high/middle school orchestras, and assisted with high school orchestras.

She holds a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Arizona State University and a Master of Music Degree in Violin Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She also holds a Texas Teaching Certification and for two years served as adjunct faculty at TCU, teaching private violin and group lessons for the String Preparatory Division.  She currently teaches music at Heritage Elementary in the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.

Sessalie has directed children’s choirs ranging in age from three years to 6th grade. Currently, she directs the Promises Choir (ages three and four) and Joyful Noise Choir (Kindergarten and 1st grade) at First United Methodist Church of Hurst.

Sessalie has a Kindermusik® Certification and has this to say about the program:

“I became interested in the Kindermusik program this year while I was researching offerings for very young children in music. Among the wonderful qualities of the Kindermusik program are its interest in developing the “whole child,” and its emphasis on the process of making music, rather than on the performance of it. These are exciting goals for me as a teacher and a mom.

I love working with children and helping them find ways to express their own ideas and creativity through musical expression. I look forward to beginning work in this area at FUMC Hurst, through the Fine Arts Academy.”

Sessalie is the wife of Greg Shapley, Director of Music & Worship at FUMC Hurst, and is the mother of Savannah, Abby, and Ben.

Tatiana Donahue

I graduated from a Music and Art High School in New York City and then from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. I am a wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter, and lover of Kindermusik. I am constantly learning more each day.

I have taken music, dance and drama classes nearly all of my 59 years. I am a certified Kindermusik teacher, and believe that Kindermusik is one more way I can enjoy music and share my love of it.

I have been married for 39 years to a wonderful man, Thomas. We had a family of six children, but lost one child to cancer. Our remaining three sons, Sean, Patrick and Liam, and two daughters Kirstin and Kelly, have made us grandparents eight times with two on the way! My mother moved into our home this year and it has been a wonderful experience to spend time together that we haven’t shared in the many years we’ve lived apart. As you can see we have a large, busy, energetic and loving family!

Music has always been in my life in some form and I am now even more excited to be teaching Kindermusik. What a wonderful program for children and parents

Come to Kindermusik class and meet me!
