Current Events

To keep updated on the events of FUMC Hurst, read the latest issue of the church newspaper, check the online events calendar, and join our faith community online, Unifyer.

Seek: Unifyer provides a safe environment for members to network with each other and connect based on shared interests.

Find: Unifyer delivers targeted, timely, and relevant information about our ministries.

Serve: Unifyer connects members to opportunities
for service.

What is Unifyer? Unifyer is a way for communication to move beyond the walls of our church. Each user gets a personal page, or profile, and can add photos, text or information. People can then share pages with each other and create groups centered on hobbies and activities.

Unifyer allows each user to subscribe to the news that interests them. It allows users to find information they need to get involved in our church community.

How do I get started? Visit http://fumchurst.unifyer.com/ to register and log in.

When you log into Unifyer, you will see tabs for News, Groups, and Friends.

News feeds: News feeds allow you to get the latest updates on your chosen areas. Have a school-aged child? Subscribe to the Children’s Ministries feed. Interested in Bible Study or other small groups? Join Adult Ministries. Fellowship with adults 60 and older? Join Encore!.
These are announcements about the ministries of FUMC Hurst. When new announcements are added to your news feeds, you will receive an e-mail informing you of the update.

Subscribing is as easy as dragging the name of the feed into a rectangle on your Unifyer page. Change your mind and no longer want updates on Children’s Ministries? Drag the name from the rectangle back into the list. It’s that easy.

Even if you are not a subscriber for a particular ministry, you can always read any announcements by clicking on the news feed title.

Group: A Unifyer group is a collection of users focused on similar interests. Each Sunday School class has a Unifyer group, as well as many other groups within our church. Any user can create a group. Groups are created and run by the church community at large, and not necessarily FUMC staff. Would you like to find other church members who share an interest or enjoy your hobby? Form a group!

To join a group just drag the name onto your Unifyer desktop. To remove yourself from a group, drag the name back into the list.

How is Unifyer different from (or better than) sending an e-mail? People change e-mail addresses quite often. It is difficult, if not impossible, for our staff and congregation to maintain accurate e-mail lists.

Unifyer can help us all ensure that information gets to the people who want and need it. No e-mails to non-existent addresses, no e-mails to people who no longer are involved in a particular ministry, and, best of all, no interested folks unintentionally left off of an e-mail list.

Is there a cost to use Unifyer? There is not a user fee. Unifyer is part of our communications budget. The cost is very reasonable — less than mailing one letter to each user. We are only charged for members who use Unifyer during the month.

Who can use Unifyer? Any member, visitor, or other person connected to FUMC Hurst can use Unifyer. We hope that this will be an effective tool to build community.

This is a new effort, and we are excited to see all that it can do! As with any new project, there will be a learning curve—we welcome your comments as we all learn how to best use Unifyer together.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Missy Matthews, Communications Director, at 817.488.1168 or by email.
