Matt Ybañez joined the staff of First United Methodist Church of Hurst in June 2006 as the Assistant Youth Director. Before that, he was the Assistant Youth Director at First United Methodist Church of Georgetown. Matt was also a Schlitterbahn lifeguard in New Braunfels and an Intramural Sports Official at Southwestern University.

Matt was born in Houston and lived there until he was 12. He moved with his mom and brother to San Marcos in 1995 and still calls it his home. Matt graduated from San Marcos High School in 2002. He then attended Southwestern University and graduated in the spring of 2006 with a bachelor's degree in Religion with a minor in Spanish. In 2008, Matt graduated from Perkins Theological Seminary.

Matt is an alumni member of Kappa Upsilon Chi, a Christian fraternity whose letters stand for "Keeping Under Christ."  In his spare time, he likes to play Ultimate Frisbee or Softball.  Matt and his wife Aimee (formerly Whiteman) were married in 2006 at FUMC Hurst. They have two daughters.
