Matt Ybañez joined the staff of First United Methodist Church of Hurst in June 2006 as the Assistant Youth Director. Before that, he was the Assistant Youth Director at First United Methodist Church of Georgetown from September of 2004 through April of 2006.  Matt was also a Schlitterbahn lifeguard in New Braunfels and an Intramural Sports Official at Southwestern University.

Matt was born in Houston December 23, 1983, and lived there until he was 12. He moved with his mom and brother to San Marcos in 1995 and still calls it his home. Matt graduated from San Marcos High School in 2002 and then attended Southwestern University and graduated in the spring of 2006 with a bachelor's degree in Religion with a minor in Spanish. Matt will begin seminary at Perkins Theological Seminary in the fall.

 

Matt is an alumni member of Kappa Upsilon Chi, a Christian fraternity whose letters stand for "Keeping Under Christ."  In his spare time, he likes to play Ultimate Frisbee or Softball.  Matt and his wife Aimee (formerly Whiteman) were married on July 8, 2006, at FUMC Hurst.
